Prof. Jonathan Muema Mwania

Professor Jonathan Muema Mwania serves as the Acting Principal of Makueni University College (MUCO), a constituent college of South Eastern Kenya University. He provides strategic leadership during the institution's formative transition phase following its gazettement in November 2025.

Under his stewardship, MUCO continues to expand access to quality higher education, strengthen academic programmes, and promote socio-economic transformation within Makueni County and the wider region.

Academic Leadership & Background

Prof. Mwania is a full Professor of Educational Psychology with a distinguished career in teaching, research, mentorship, and university administration.

• PhD in Educational Psychology – University of Dar es Salaam
• Master of Education (Guidance & Counselling) – Egerton University
• MSc in Business Administration (Strategic Management) – Lukenya University
• Bachelor of Education (Arts) – Kenyatta University

Prior to his appointment at MUCO, he served at South Eastern Kenya University as Dean of the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Director of Kitui Town Campus, and member of key academic governance committees.

Professor Mwania has published widely in the areas of educational psychology, student motivation, and university governance. He is also a recipient of several research and mentorship awards, reflecting his dedication to nurturing the next generation of scholars and leaders.
